Gauge pressure (psig, barg) is measured relative to the ambient atmospheric pressure. A gauge reading of 0 means the pressure equals the local atmosphere.

Absolute pressure (psia, bara) is measured relative to a perfect vacuum. Absolute pressure equals gauge pressure plus atmospheric pressure.
